Racing Information

I found this car in Houston about three years ago. After doing some body work, paint, engine and transmission rebuild, new brakes, tires, windsheild, battery, and exhaust, I took it out to the track and it ran a best of 13.8 at 104 mph on street tires. I then bought some slicks, air-gap intake, and 3.73 rear gears. The car now ran a best of 13.2 at 105 mph.
Beating most Camaros, Trans Ams, and Mustangs was fun but I still wanted more performance. I then installed a 3500 stall converter and dropped my E.T. down to 12.8. This was fun, but not enough, so I had the engine rebuilt with forged 12.5:1 pistons and 6" forged rods and racing bearings. The car now pulled 1.6 60'times and ran a 12.40 at 107 mph. The engine soon spun a bearing and I swore never to let anyone build my engines again. I then ordered a balanced stroker kit from "PowerHouse" engine components. With the help of a neighbor, I built my 388 stroker in my garage. I took great care to use the appropriate torque spec on everything. Frank Peralez, who is an excellent engine builder did all the machine work on my engine. This included decking the block, carving out the inside to allow the 400 crank to fit and boring the cylinders to .060 over. The car now ran a 12.30 on a poorly preped track. Recently, with the addition of some new Hoosiers and some carb tuning, the Elky ran a 12.15! I changed the rear to 4.10s and added a 50hp hit of nitrous. A 50hit keeps the car very consistant and there is little chance of any engine damage. The nitrous helped me win two events in a row and 2nd in the third. I run in an 11.90 index "heads up"class. This class requires that your car is street legal and you must run through the mufflers. This along with the south Texas heat slowed me down 3 tenths. This is when I made the decision to use nitrous. An open header 50hp hit of nitrous took me to an 11.77 in the 1/4, so I have to short shift and let off the gas at the end of the track to keep from going faster than the 11.90 index. If I was to open the headers, shift at a higher rpm, and use a 100 of nitrous, I am sure that I will run in the low 11's. Last night I ran a best of 11.63, but I realized that I am geared way too high. I crossed the line at 6400rpm. My peak hp is located at the 5900 rpm mark. I am going to go back to 3.73's and maybe go to some 28 inch tall slicks. Thanks to my neighbor, I now have a set of 29" Hoosier Quick Time Pros. This should really help my top end rpm, mph, and ets.

I won the Streed Rod class this year and had a best run of  11.49 @ 115mph at the Ford vs Chevy event last Friday! The 29" dot slicks have really helped.  My trap rpm is now at 6000rpm which is at the top end of my power band.  The 26" tires made the car cross the line at too high an rpm.  I will next try going to a double pumper with a ProForm carb body in an effort to gain a few more tenths.  If that works and I get close to a 10, I will try a 125hp shot of nitrous in an effort to break into the tens.

3-03-04 I did some tuning and ran the Proform double pumper carb at Board Wars II. The car ran an 11.39 @ 114mph. I let off the gas at the end of the run so I am expecting to run an 11.2x next time around. This was run with a 100 hp shot of nitrous. I am positive that I will break into the 10's by this summer.
